8x8" Original Art at CityScape Community Art Space

This wildly popular show features Anonymous works by a variety of artists all painting on an 8inch by 8inch canvas (or board).  These mini-masterpieces are all for sale at $100 each with the artist retaining 1/2 and 1/2 going to the community space so that they can put on even more exciting shows.

Check out the over 700 works on display.  Surely you can find just right for you!  See if you can find mine - before it is sold.  Just a few blocks up the hill from Lonsdale Quay makes a great lunch & walk on a sunny winter day.

It's the Holiday Season at ROAM Gallery

I've got two works at this show!  It is an exciting concept with all original art priced at $60, $120 , or $240.  Why buy the same Print as thousands of others when you can get Original art for this low?

Visit often as when art is sold it is taken straight off the wall and replaced with a new piece.

Gallery Bistro , Port Moody

Drop into this cozy little Gallery and Bistro where the food is delicious and the paintings even better- especially between Feb 18 and Mar 15 when I will be showing 18+ canvases with my fellow painter and father, R.J.Schmitt.

Father/Daughter is a show of contrasts and is the first solo show featuring the work of Robert Schmitt, the father. At 87 he paints with a youthful exuberance of unexpected colour and subject.   Born in 1929 he has been in Vancouver since 1970 except for 8 years when he lived aboard his sailboat Ichiban, in the Mediterranean.  He has painted since the late 1950’s but it was in France that he became an admirer of the Pointillist and Luminist styes of Cross, Luce, and Signac among others.  As with most artists, his painting style as well as his medium of choice has evolved over time.  Presently he works only in oil on canvas or board and his subjects include landscapes, still life and the human figure.

Roberta Beck, the daughter, is a long time Port Moody artist though she has only been painting for 40 years, compared to his 55.  Growing up with an artist for a father meant she had early exposure to different ways of viewing the world and the art in it.  But as with all children she rebelled and fell in love with the impressionist movement.  Her work is in acrylic and tries to capture the flow of mood and movement.

Sunlight on granite slides across the smooth surface while it crystallizes the falling waters and creates knife edges on cracks and crevasses.

Nightsong 16x20 acrylic on canvas $320

Two ideas were born for this painting, the hum of a city at dusk and the concept of what the city would look like if put to a sound graph.

Seated Ballerina 16x20 acrylic on canvas $320

In a life drawing class my focus was on how the strong spotlights defined the girl's body and full skirt.

When the snow geese are in Boundary Bay they gather so densely that they form clouds of colour and shape.
